The Ruwanwelisaya stupa rises above the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, one of the earliest and most revered dagobas built by the island's Sinhalese kings more than two thousand years ago. Photographed in 2013, its whitewashed dome remains a major pilgrimage site.
