Near Samarkand's Rukhabad quarter stands the mausoleum Timur ordered built in 1380 over the grave of the theologian Sheikh Burhaneddin Sagarji, a figure the conqueror reportedly revered enough to dismount whenever passing his tomb. This mosque sits within the same historic neighborhood, one of the oldest in the city.
