Rukhabad Friday Mosque 104

2024 Samarkand, Uzbekistan

This mosque stands in Samarkand's Rukhabad district, named for the nearby fourteenth-century mausoleum of Sheikh Burhaneddin Sagarji, an Islamic scholar who once headed a Muslim mission in Yuan-dynasty China. The mausoleum, built on Timur's order in 1380, ranks among the oldest surviving structures from his reign.
