This minaret rises in Samarkand's Rukhabad quarter, home to one of the earliest buildings erected under Timur's rule: the 1380 mausoleum of the widely revered scholar Sheikh Burhaneddin Sagarji. Unlike most Timurid tombs, the mausoleum forgoes a grand entrance portal, giving it identical façades on every side.
