Wheel on Orontes River, Hama
2009 Hama, Syria
One of the historic wooden norias, or waterwheels, that have lifted water from the Orontes River at Hama, Syria for centuries, photographed in 2009. The wheels, some dating back hundreds of years, were traditionally used to channel water into aqueducts irrigating the surrounding fields.
