Thuparamaya, believed to be the oldest stupa in Sri Lanka, rises against a pink evening sky in this 2019 view from the sacred city of Anuradhapura. Tradition holds it was built in the third century BCE under King Devanampiya Tissa to enshrine a relic of the Buddha.
