Valletta, Malta's capital, was built by the Knights of St. John following the Great Siege of 1565 and is laid out in a grid within extensive fortifications. This 2008 photograph shows a view of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dense concentration of Baroque architecture.
