Bagrati temple reconstruction
2009 Kutaisi, Georgia
The Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi, Georgia, was originally built in the early eleventh century under King Bagrat III and later partially destroyed. This 2009 photograph shows the controversial reconstruction of the cathedral then underway, a project that eventually led UNESCO to remove the site from its World Heritage list.
