2022 Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania
Zanzibar's Stone Town, seen in this 2022 photograph, grew up as a fortified Swahili and Omani Arab settlement on the island's west coast. Narrow, largely pedestrian streets wind between tightly packed multi-storey houses, a layout largely unchanged since the town's nineteenth-century heyday.
