Ascensor Peral, one of Valparaiso's oldest funiculars, photographed in 2006. Opened in 1902, it carries passengers between Plaza Sotomayor and the hillside neighborhood of Cerro Alegre, part of a network of funiculars built to make the port city's steep terrain walkable.
