Marhubi ruins

2008 Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania

The Marhubi ruins north of Stone Town are what remains of a palace built around 1880 for Sultan Barghash bin Said of Zanzibar, once used to house the women of his harem. A fire destroyed most of the structure in 1899, leaving the tall stone columns and archways seen in this 2008 photograph.
