Pilgrims gather at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the sacred fig tree in Anuradhapura believed to have grown from a cutting of the original Bodhi tree in India over two thousand years ago. It remains one of the most venerated Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka.
