Guri Amir Mausoleum
2012 Samarkand, Uzbekistan
The Gur-e-Amir mausoleum in Samarkand holds the tomb of Timur, the fourteenth-century conqueror also known as Tamerlane, along with several of his sons and grandsons. Its ribbed azure dome became a model for later Timurid and Mughal tomb architecture, including the Taj Mahal.
