Lima's Plaza Mayor, laid out by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 as the founding square of the Spanish colonial city, remains the ceremonial center of Peru's capital. This 2022 photograph shows the plaza bordered by the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the Municipal Palace, part of the historic centre inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
