1910 Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
The medieval Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo is captured in this 1910 photograph. Built on a hill overlooking the Yantra River, the fortress served as the stronghold of Bulgaria's medieval tsars and the seat of the Second Bulgarian Empire before its fall in the fourteenth century.
