Elmina Castle (St. George’s Castle)

2025 Elmina, Ghana

St. George's Castle at Elmina was built by the Portuguese in the late 15th century and is the oldest European-built structure still standing in sub-Saharan Africa, later seized by the Dutch and used, along with the British, as a colonial fort and slave-trading post.
