1974 Khiva, Uzbekistan
The Kalta Minor minaret in Khiva, its turquoise-tiled surface unmistakable; construction began in the 1850s with the aim of making it the tallest minaret in the Islamic world, but it was left unfinished at roughly 29 meters after the khan who commissioned it died.
