Dong Ba Market took its present name in 1887 after King Dong Khanh rebuilt a market destroyed two years earlier during an attack on Hue, and Emperor Thanh Thai relocated it to its current riverside site in 1899. Sitting along the Perfume River, it has served as one of the city's principal trading hubs ever since.
