Condemned cell at Elmina
2007 Elmina, Ghana
Elmina Castle, on Ghana's coast, was built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used by the Dutch as a hub of the transatlantic slave trade; its condemned cell held prisoners before execution. This photograph, taken in 2007, shows that cell within the fortress.
