One of the stone castles within Gondar's Fasil Ghebbi royal enclosure, photographed in 2012. Gondar was the capital of the Ethiopian Empire between the 17th and 19th centuries, and this fortified compound of castles and palaces remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
