Photographed in 1931, this image documents ruins in Gondar identified in the original caption as remnants of an imperial castle from the Portuguese period, a site now known as Fasil Ghebbi or Fasilides' Palace. Gondar served as the capital of the Ethiopian Empire from the 17th century onward.
