Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, photographed in 2013. Founded in 711, the shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice and prosperity, and is known worldwide for its thousands of vermilion torii gates climbing the sacred mountain behind it.
