A weathered brick gate tower rises above a stone archway at the Hue Citadel in Hue, Vietnam, its upper pavilion decorated with red-and-gold woodwork, ceramic roof ornaments, and ceremonial flags. The citadel served as the seat of Nguyen-dynasty emperors, photographed here in 2011.
