Ussher Fort 15

2023 Accra, Ghana

Originally built by the Dutch West India Company in 1649 as Fort Crèvecœur, this Accra stronghold was ceded to Britain under an 1867 treaty and renamed Ussher Fort after a British colonial administrator. It was later used as a prison before its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979.
