1866 Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Scottish photographer John Thomson made this view of Saigon in 1866 as part of his extensive photographic surveys of East and Southeast Asia. The image survives today among the Wellcome Collection's iconographic holdings, one of the earliest photographic records of the city.
