1900 Sofia, Bulgaria

Boulevard Maria Luisa, one of Sofia's principal thoroughfares, pictured around 1900. Named for Maria Luisa of Bourbon-Parma, mother of Bulgaria's ruling prince, the street was part of the city's rebuilding into a modern European capital after independence from Ottoman rule in 1878.
