The Alexander Nevsky Memorial in Sofia, Bulgaria, photographed in 1901. The memorial was dedicated to the Russian and Bulgarian soldiers who died in the 1877-78 war that freed Bulgaria from Ottoman rule, a conflict named for the Russian tsar's patron saint.
